I've been writing professionally since I was 17, getting my start as a sports writer at the daily newspaper in my hometown, Creston, Iowa. I believe the key components of good writing are flow, flow, flow. Ever read something short and sweet, but struggled to reach "the end" because the writing is clunky? An interesting article, speech, letter or what have you, with well-turned phrases and smooth transitions, will hold the reader's attention—regardless of length—from the attention-enticing opening through to a satisfying conclusion. That said, I'm equally comfortable writing in-depth features and composing effective taglines.
